Corpus Christi has a strong industrial base as well as a thriving tourism industry. Corpus Christi is a seaport at the mouth of the Nueces River on the west end of Corpus Christi Bay. It is the largest city on the South Texas coast. Natural gas and oil along with the gradual deepening of the ship channel to its current depth of 45 feet, helped make Corpus Christi a major Gulf Coast petrochemical center.
